The Southern Route is renowned for its vibrant tribal traditions, colorful markets, and untouched beauty. Over seven days, you will meet the Hamar, Mursi, Karo, Ari, and Banna tribes, each with their own fascinating customs, body art, and age-old ceremonies. Along the way, explore lush national parks, the wildlife-rich Lake Chamo, and the lively towns that serve as cultural crossroads.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 :
Fly Addis Ababa – Jinka (BCO) and visit Aari village (August 11th 2025 )
Your guide will meet you at Jinka Airport and transfer you to the best restaurant in town. Today you will visit the Aari tribe Village outside Jinka. The Aari tribe boosts the largest population in Omo Valley. They are famous for their pottery making skills. If it is a market day (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday) you will visit a tribal market in Jinka or the nearby towns.
Overnight: Nasa pension in Jinka (from newly built rooms)
Day 2 :
Drive Jinka – Mursi Village – Turmi (August 12th 2025 )
After breakfast at your lodge, depart early to Mursi village (50 km one-way drive on gravel road) so as to get a genuine experience with the famous Mursi people. Return to Jinka for lunch and continue to Turmi town of the Hamar tribe. On the way you will visit the Banna tribe in a village or at one of their weekly market. You may also witnesses the famous Bull Jumping Ceremony of the Banna or Hamar Tribe on this day upon availability.

Day 3 :
Turmi – Omorate – Turmi (August 13th 2025 )
Following breakfast, depart to Omorate town 75 km south on an asphalt road to meet with the Dassanech tribe whose name means people of the delta. Omorate is the last border town in southern Ethiopia. Immigration officials will examine your visa and passport, then continue to one of the best non-touristy Dassanech villages and experience the Dassanech people. You will return to Turmi for lunch and get rest. You will visit Hamar Village in the late afternoon.

Day 4 :
Turmi – Kara – Turmi (August 14th 2025 )
Drive from Turmi to Karo Korcho 60 km road to the most popular and attractive Karo tribe village. The village is on a hill where the Omo River makes a zigzag turn. You will meet the Kara tribe and interact genuinely by not rushing to take pictures. After getting an enriching experience with the Karo tribe and learning the local perspective of the cultures, you will return to Turmi for lunch. After lunch, you will visit a tribal market available in the area. There is a chance to see the Hamar bull jumping ceremony during your stay in Turmi town.

Day 5 : From Turmi – via Rebore – Konso- Arbaminch (August 15th 2025 )
Drive 200 km to Konso village on partial gravel and partially asphalt road. On the way, you will visit the available tribal village on our away we will stop once at Arbore .The Arbore tribe, a small community in the southwest Omo Valley of Ethiopia, maintains a rich culture centered around pastoralism, traditional dances, and unique customs. They believe that singing and dancing can eliminate negative energy and promote prosperity for their tribe. After spending mach time we can drive further more to konos .(if preferable and available to be decided by your guide by considering the previous day’s activities) and stop for lunch either in Key Afer or Woyto town depending on your morning activity.
the afternoon, you will visit Konso village, the Konso King at his traditional palace, the graveyard in a sacred forest where his ancestors are barred, and a grave mark called Waka erected. Drive further more to Arbaminch.

Day 6 : Drive Arbaminche – Dorze
Drive 45km (August 16th 2025)
continue to Dorze village. After enjoying the beautiful Dorze landscape and people, Dorze people, an Omotic-speaking ethnic group in the Gamo Highlands of southern Ethiopia, they are renowned for their unique culture, particularly their weaving skills, distinctive beehive-shaped houses, and agricultural practices centered around the false banana plant. you will return to Arba Minch for the night.

Day 7 :
Arba Minch – Fly Addis Ababa (August 17th )
On the morning of this day, you will head to Lake Chamo for a short boat trip. It is highly likely to see Crocodiles and Hippos in the Lake. You will also see some of the beautiful lake birds. After lunch, head to Arba Minch airport to fly back to Addis.
